Imbros
A small mountainous village of Sfakia with rich history and with a picturesque character until nowadays. Imbros is renowned for its beauty and for its hospitable residents, who are not more than 50 people.
Imbros is built at the foothills of the White Mountains at an altitude of 780 meters. Imbros is located 50 kilometers from Chania and 18 km from Sfakia. It has lovely taverns with traditional Cretan cuisine, coffee shops and supermarkets.
Imbros Gorge starts right from the village and its length is about 8 kilometers. It takes less than 3 hours to cross the Gorge. It starts from the last houses of the village of Imbros and ends at Komitades, the next village. It is a spectacular Gorge with narrow passages. At some points its breadth is only two meters long and its height can reach 300 meters.
The first part of the Gorge passes through a forest with cypresses, oaks and maples. This impressive route, with the walls of the gorge almost joined at several points, leads to the road to Sfakia and to Fragokastello.
