Plaka

The village is part of Vamos, which belongs to the municipality of Apokoronas in Chania. It is built on the slope of Drapanokefala Hill. On the other side of the Hill there is the Red Village. Plaka is located at an altitude of 70 meters above sea level, very close to the famous beach of Almirida and to Kalives, an area with well-known beaches as well. Plaka is 23 km from Chania and has about 400 residents.

Plaka is built in the greenery, among trees and olives, and the sunset from the village is absolutely stunning. The central square of Plaka has taverns and restaurants with traditional food, as well as cafes and supermarkets, which can satisfy the needs of both locals and visitors. For more specialized services and ATMs, you should go to Almirida, which is the tourist center of the region and it is only 1 km away from Plaka.

The bus service of Plaka is frequent. There are buses from Chania that arrive at the village on a daily basis. Furthermore, the distance from Almirida is totally short and it can be done by paying a fee at extremely low price or by taxi.

In July, “Plakiana” are organized. It is a traditional Cretan feast in honor of Michael Papadakis, a lira player, equally known as Plakianos.
