Stavros

Stavros is a village in Chania, which is located 15 kilometers to the east of the city, at Akrotiri. It is built by the sea, around the homonymous beach.

Stavros, and more specifically its beach, with its characteristic huge rock became famous around the world in the 1960s. Then, in 1964, was filmed here the most typical movie scene «Zorba the Greek», (Zorba the Greek) with Anthony Quinn in the title role dancing memorable Sirtaki.

Taverns with traditional food, cafes and tourist accommodation in that area can greet visitors that choose Stavros to spend a quiet holiday by the sea and sheltered beach. The picturesque harbor gathers people from all around the region, especially on days that north wind blows, as Stavros is not affected by the winds.

The transport from Chania to Stavros is often and is realized by interurban bus several times a day. At a short distance from Stavros, can be visited Kounoupediana, Moni Gouvernetos, Arkoudospilios and the beautiful beaches of Akrotiri: Kalathas, Marathi, Almyrida and others
