Varipetro

Just 7 km outside Chania, at Therissos, there is the village Varipetro, built at an altitude of 95 meters.

From Varipetro, a small dirt road starts, leading to the takeoff spot for those who are fans of parapente or paragliding in Crete.

This takeoff spot is orientated to the north and it’s located at an altitude of 150 meters. The view from there is amazing and visitors can see the White Mountains and the Lake Agia.

In general, apart from Varipetro, several locations where both beginners and professionals have the opportunity to practice paragliding, enjoying the beautiful Cretan nature exist and are available to anyone.

Near Varipetro, there is also the Monastery of Agia Kiriaki, which was restored in 1992. The area around the nunnery is wonderful, with a beautiful forest, a small gorge and several cobbled paths which lead to the small chapels built inside the caves of the region.
