Ano Garouna

Built in an amphitheatrical way, on the western slopes of the mountain of Agioi Deka, the village of Ano Garouna is one of the smallest in Corfu with distinctive, yet traditional architecture. Ano Garouna, which is surrounded by dense olive groves, offers a wonderful view of the beach of Ai Gordis whic, is one of the most beautiful and most popular in Corfu. It also overlooks the opposite settlement of Kato Garouna which is a larger one.

Ano Garouna is famous for its tradition in sculpture and the carving of stone. In the region there, are small handicraft industries with ceramics and also the traditional koum kouat  which you can taste in different variations such as a liqueur and as a preserved fruit served with a spoon.

Ano Garouna is an ideal place for those who love nature and who enjoy hiking. You can walk from the path which leads to Kato Garouna. You can also go to the Monastery of Agios Panteleiomonas, situated about 2 kilometers outside the village.

From Ano Garouna you will also witness one of the most beautiful sunsets of the island.
