Skinos

Skinos is the large bay to the east of the port of Ithaca. The beach is in the depths of the bay. You arrive here after covering a distance of three kilometers from Vathi, the island’s capital. The road is paved until the beach of Mnimata, then, however, a short dirt road follows, that is passable for conventional cars, but if you prefer not to risk it, you can easily walk the distance to Skinos.

A small footpath at the end, will get you through dense vegetation, pine trees, cypresses and palm trees to the beach of Skinos. The pine trees come down to the sea, while the enclosed bay is verdant, creating a fairytale atmosphere.

The mountain Niritos across the beach, with the monastery of Cathara, seems to “close” the bay so that Skinos, with the always calm and safe waters, looks like a lake.

The beach is narrow and rocky and there are pine trees in many parts, offering shade and coolness. The water in Skinos is not particularly deep, ideal for endless swimming.

The path that starts from the end of the beach of Skinos, leads to the beach Gidaki, one of the most beautiful on the island. The path is marked and it will take you about 40 minutes to reach Gidaki.
