Ano Korakiana

Ano Korakiana is a beautiful and traditional Corfiot village built at the foot of the mountains Korentis and Korakio from which it got its name. Ano Korakiana extends linearly in the direction east-west, around two parallel roads which are its backbone. It is a medieval village which has broadly maintained its architecture intact. Many old churches (a total of 37) and the house where, the Bandiera brothers lived while organizing their participation in the Italian revolution, are the most significant sights of the village.

Wander about in the picturesque alleys of Ano Korakiana and discover small, traditional coffee shops and taverns. At a very close distance are situated the beaches of Ypsos  and of Barbati . For the enthusiasts of hiking there is an amazing «serpentine» path 4 kilometers long, from Ano Korakiana to Sokraki .

The village has a tradition of choral music but, also the famous Philharmonic Society «Spyros Samaras». Finally, Ano Korakiana is the place of birth of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of Greece.
