Τhe excavation of two periods in 2009 and 2010 brought into light the very extensive facilities of Roman Baths in Loutro, located 3.5 km to the west of Petalidi in Messinia. The complex is located a few meters away from Roman baths that were revealed in the past in the region.
The premises of the Roman Baths are extended along the coast and include a bathroom with hypocausts, glass and metal furnaces with auxiliary premises and precinct. Among the buildings of Roman Baths, there are the ruins of a building of classic period, which was preserved as a monument by later generations and that’s why it was not destroyed.
Another excavation at Acropolis of Petalidi, near the Roman Baths, has also revealed remains of bath installations, parts of mosaic floors and foundations of large buildings of late Roman time. They have also excavated foundations of homes or even workshops as well as an organized Roman cemetery.
