Corfu - Natural Attractions
Corfu has a very beautiful and natural environment. The winter rain in combination with the relatively temperate summer and fertile soil of the island create a verdant landscape, from one end to the other, during the entire year. Olive trees are dominant in the Corfiot landscape. Its Olive Grove includes 3 to 6 million olive trees, some of which are more than 400 years old!
A large part of the region has been declared preserved based on international treaties and has been included in special protection programs because of its importance for life on the planet. Amongst these are Lake Korission on which is located the only cedar forest in the island, and the Lagoon of Antiniotis, in the north-eastern part of the island. A region of rare, natural beauty is Erimitis, a completely virgin area, with dense vegetation, lakes and enchanting, secluded beaches.
The highest mountain of Corfu, Pantokratoras, dominates in the northern part of the island and calls you to discover it, through beautiful routes and with a brethtaking view but, also through its beautiful Venetian villages which are relatively unaffected by tourism. The waterfalls in Kyprianades and in Nymfes impress with their height. Anthropograva and the Cave in Loutses are the most significant caves of the island, with exceptionally beautiful stalagmites and stalactites which are also found in the northern part of the island. Another mountain in the southern part of the island is the mountain of Agioi Deka which you can discover through its verdant paths.
Inside the old city and next to Spianada square you can refresh yourselves and enjoy a stroll in two trimmed gardens, Boschetto Garden and the Garden of the People, with a view of the Old Fortress of the city.
