Evros – Museums

The visitors of Evros can admire its entire history through the wealth of museums found in every town, but in most of the villages as well. They host objects that recount the region’s as well as the residents’ course over the centuries, as well as important artifact of the past.

The Folklore Museums in Evros that describe scenes from the lives of residents of bygone times are the one standing out. The refugee history is recorded in detail; the Historical Folklore Museum of Orestiada, for example, describes the life of refugees that founded the city, with a wealth of objects and artifacts that were carried with them to the new life from the old homeland.

In Evros, there are still museums for the Ethnological History of Thrace, the history of Cappadocians as well as the traditional Sarakatsani settlement, outside Leptokarya.

In Soufli and the surrounding regions, visitors can see many museums that describe the history of silk and its production progress in this particular city of Evros.

What you will not see in Evros is an archaeological museum, as the Archaeological Museum of Alexandroupolis is under construction and the archaeological findings from the region are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Komotini.
