Phocis - Culture
The area of Phocis is the cradle of the civilization, not only in Greece but also of the humanity. The Oracle of Delphi of course dominates, as the entire area that we call Delphic Landscape has to show numerous attractions of archaeological interest, but also of modern civilization. Apart from the tour to the archaeological site, the Archaeological Museum of Delphi wins the interest of visitors. The European Cultural Centre of Delphi with its action holds today the center of cultural activities in the area.
Amfissa and villages around the city have to show monuments of culture of antiquity, but also great attractions of the Byzantine period and the Greek Revolution: Hani of Gravia, Castle of Salona, and the Battle of Dremissa, are just some of them.
The churches and monasteries of the region are an important part of its civilization. Panagia Varnakova, the Old Monastery of the Timios Prodromos and a lot of churches and chapels with history and culture that disappears with the passage of the time.
The traditional festivals in the villages of Parnassus, Gkiona, Oiti and Vardoussia are also an element of the contemporary civilization of the area that reaches until today through a historical continuity. Customs and traditions that kept religiously, not only in daily life but also in local dishes, which the visitor will taste even in the smallest village don’t let him indifferent!
